Romanian Pigeon Sports Federation (RPSF) proposes the transformation of pigeon races into a sports branch
The Romanian Pigeon Sports Federation proposes the transformation of pigeon races into a sports branch, the support of pigeon breeders and the creation of a strong national championship.
The Romanian Pigeon Sports Federation, recently established in accordance with the Sports Law, proposes the transformation of pigeon races into a sports branch and the creation of an appropriate legal frame, in the same time with the recognition of this sport by the Ministry of Education, Research, Youth and Sports.
Following the affiliation, sporting pigeons will receive a clear identity, both at national and international level.
„We aim at creating a strong championship in Romania as well, following the Western Europe model. The breeding of racing pigeons has a tradition in Romania, the first races of this sort being organized in the 30s. The next step is the affiliation to the International Federation and the organization of local competitions together with the federations of neighbor countries”, declares Cezar Sinca, the President of RPSF.
Currently, racing pigeon breeders are gouped in several clubs and associations, and a large part of them has already affiliated to the RPSF. „We have clubs in Bucharest, Prahova, Vrancea, Giurgiu, Ialomita, Calarasi, Suceava, Botosani, Bacau, Brasov. Our wish is to convince many clubs and associations in the country to join the Federation, because this is the future of pigeon races. Pigeon breeders in Romania, united in a single Federation, must align to European standards. Although we have only been functioning for two weeks, we already have several thousands of members throughout country”, adds Cezar Sinca.
Among the Federation’s objectives is the support of those who have a passion for this sport in order to develop their own breeding locations, to build headquarters for the existing clubs and the establishment of new clubs in the country. Also, RPSF plans on creating a referee school at national level.
Not least, the Federation aims to develop this sport through the creation of breeding locations at European standards in schools and the organization of an interschool championship.
The following step is the affiliation of the RRPF to the International Federation, which will take place at the beginning of 2011.
„Passion and determination is what success is grounded on. I bred pigeons in my childhood, but the reason why I decided to join the RPSF is that I found people with true passion for what they do. Sporting pigeons are the true athletes of the air, and the way to success takes training, proper knowledge and a lot of passion. We support the organization of pigeon races, but also the breeding of pigeons according to European standards and we wish to convince as many racing pigeon breeders to join the Federation”, says Ivan Patzaichin, Honorific President of RRPF.
Currently, in Romania there are around 15,000 racing pigeon breeders. Within this branch, there are several competitions: speed (100 – 350 km), middle distance (350 – 500 km), long distance (500 – 800 km) and marathon (over 800 km). Sports pigeons are bred, trained and specialized according to these challenges and have pedigree.
The first sporting pigeon race took place in Belgium in 1818, shortly becoming a beloved sports competition both in The Netherlands and in Belgium. Since the end of the 19th century, pigeon sports have been practiced all over the world. The pigeon sport is the second sport in popularity in Belgium and The Netherlands, after soccer. In the two countries there are over 90,000 breeding locations. In Portugal, pigeon sports are also much appreciated.
